How to Choose the Best Golf Hat: Fit, Sweat and Everyday Use

Light-colored Iron Goat golf hat on grass, with a curved brim and perforated side panels.

The best golf hat is one you want to wear for the whole round. Fit comes first. After that, I’d look at how it handles sweat, what conditions you play in and whether the extra features are useful to you.

I’m the founder of Kabra Golf, so I have a point of view here. These are the things I’d check when comparing hats, including our Iron Goat.

Start with the fit

An adjustable snapback changes how tight a hat feels. It doesn’t change the depth of the crown or the size of the bill. If a hat sits too low over your ears, tightening it may not solve the problem.

Measure around your head where the sweatband normally sits and compare that with the maker’s size guide. If you already own a hat that fits well, use its crown and bill as a reference too.

For the original Iron Goat, Standard is our most popular fit, with an approximate recommended head circumference of 56–62 cm. Small runs very small, with a smaller crown and bill and an approximate range of 52–56 cm. At the overlap, consider how regular men’s hats sit on you. See our full size guide before ordering.

Our women’s hat uses the Small Iron Goat fit and includes a pink GOAT ball marker.

Look inside the hat

If you play in the heat, look for actual construction details about the sweatband and lining. “Performance” on a label doesn’t tell you much on its own.

The Iron Goat has a double sweatband and interior lining designed to help fight salt stains, plus perforated panels. It still needs regular care. You can read our sweat and salt-stain care guide for the routine we recommend.

Think about the weather and coverage

Water-repellent fabric can help with light moisture. It isn’t the same as a waterproof hat. That’s the distinction we make for the Iron Goat.

A cap covers the top of your head, while a visor leaves it open. If you like an open crown, take a look at our men’s visor or women’s visor and check their measurements. If UV protection is a priority, look for a stated protection rating from the manufacturer.

Choose features you’ll actually use

We built a hidden magnetic brim into the Iron Goat because having a marker within reach is useful to us. The original hat includes a GOAT ball marker, so you don’t need a separate brim clip for it.

Our magnetic brim and clip comparison explains the practical differences. If you prefer to keep your marker in a pocket, give more weight to the fit and feel of the hat.

Compare the full purchase

Check the current price, what’s included, available fit options and the return policy. Then read the cleaning instructions. For the Iron Goat, that means gentle hand-washing with mild soap and air-drying.

A hat can look good in a product photo and still be wrong for your head or your routine. Start with those basics, then choose a color you’ll enjoy wearing. You can browse our golf hats here.
