How to Reduce Sweat and Salt Stains on Golf Hats
After a hot round, give your hat a chance to dry before putting it away. When it needs cleaning, keep it simple: gently hand-wash your Iron Goat with mild soap, then let it air-dry.
We designed the hat to help manage sweat and salt stains, but it still needs care. Here’s the routine we recommend for the Iron Goat. For another brand’s hat, start with its care label.
Why salt marks show up
Sweat can leave salt behind as it dries. Over repeated rounds, that can show up around the sweatband and outer fabric. The color of the hat, how much you sweat and how often you wear it all affect what you see.
Water repellency is a separate feature. It helps the outer fabric shed light moisture; it doesn’t mean sweat, salt or dirt can’t build up.
A simple routine after your round
- Let it air-dry. Give a damp hat time to dry before storing it.
- Check the sweatband. Look at the inside as well as the outside when deciding whether it needs a wash.
- Hand-wash gently with mild soap. Avoid the washing machine and dryer. Our care FAQ has the current guidance.
- Air-dry again after washing. Let it dry fully before wearing or putting it away.
You don’t need a complicated schedule. Someone playing several hot rounds a week will need to clean their hat more often than someone wearing it occasionally.
What’s inside the Iron Goat?
The Iron Goat Hat has a double sweatband and interior lining designed to help fight salt stains. Perforated panels provide openings for airflow. Those details help with everyday use, and regular care helps keep the hat ready for the next round.
A few common questions
Can I put it in the washing machine?
We recommend gentle hand-washing with mild soap and air-drying. Skip the washing machine and dryer.
Is it sweatproof or waterproof?
The fabric is water-repellent, and the sweatband and lining help manage sweat. The hat isn’t waterproof or guaranteed to stay free of salt stains.
