Kabra vs. Melin Golf Hats: Iron Goat and Compass Links Hydro

GOAT ball marker on the brim of Kabra’s Iron Goat Hat in Haze

Both the Kabra Iron Goat and Melin’s Compass Links Hydro have a built-in magnet for a ball marker. The useful differences are where the marker sits, how the hat fits and what you pay.

I’m Lance, the founder of Kabra Golf. This is our brand’s comparison of the original Iron Goat Hat and the black Compass Links Hydro with MagnaLink, based on the product information linked below. It is not an independent review or a claim that we have tested Melin’s hat side by side with ours.

Start with the fit

Size names do not transfer directly between brands. Our Iron Goat size guide recommends approximately 52–56 cm for Small and 56–62 cm for Standard. Standard is our most popular fit. Small runs very small, with a smaller crown and bill.

The size chart on Melin’s Compass product page lists 56.5–58.5 cm for Small, 58.5–60.5 cm for Classic and 61–63 cm for XL. Its XL option may be worth considering if you need more room. Measure your head and check both guides; circumference alone does not tell you how the crown will sit.

Think about how you use your marker

The Iron Goat gives you a choice of left or right and top or underside placement. When you remove the marker, the magnets stay concealed in the brim. The short demonstration in our magnetic brim guide shows how it works.

Melin’s MagnaLink model also carries a marker without a separate clip. If that feature matters to you, compare the actual model you are buying. Features in the Links collection should not be assumed to appear on every Melin hat.

What would make me choose either one?

The Iron Goat is worth a look if you like a rope hat, want flexible marker placement and prefer the lower listed price. At the prices checked here, it costs $35 less.

The Compass Links Hydro is worth a look if its shape suits you, you want an XL option or you value its built-in tee holder. The right fit can matter more than a price difference.

Construction descriptions are not a head-to-head performance test. We are not claiming that either hat will last longer, feel cooler or keep every sweat stain away. Our Iron Goat is water-repellent, not waterproof, and we recommend gentle hand-washing and air-drying.
